How To Maintain your Relaxed Hair Between Salon Visits

Failure to do proper maintance is the #1 problem I see with most clients. Wether you visit the salon every week or every four weeks, in order to maintain the style and health of your hair, you have to include a proper daily maintance routine.

You left the salon, and your stylist gave you a fablous look. After spending your money and time in the salon you want to be able to maintain it until your next salon visit.

1st:  Depending on your style will determine if you pin curled or wrap your hair at home. If your stylist gave you a lot of curls and you want to maintain the curly look then you would need to pin curl. All you need is Bobby pens and a silk or satin scarf. The key to pin curls is the smaller the pin curl and section the tighter the curl the larger the pin curls and section the bigger the curls.  If your hair is more straight or very loose curls and you want body, then wrap your hair and tie down with a silk or satin scarf. The key to wrapping hair is every other night change the direction. So if you start wrapping your hair going to the left the 1st night, wrap it going to the right the 2nd night.  Changing the direction of your rap will ensure that one side doesn't lay different or thin out.

2nd:  Use a light oil on your hair and massage it on your hair and scalp. There is no need to grease your scalp  especially if you want to maintain volume in body.  Also greasing the scalp can clog pores. You can always use a light oil like Bio Silk or Chi.  Oil is not needed everyday only as you see your hair looking a little dull. I suggest you use oil in the mornings when you are taking down your pin curls or your wrap.  You would just put a small drop in your hands and rub it all over your hands and began taking your hair down.

3rd:  After a salon visit heat should not be needed but if it is needed use a very small amount of heat. If you must add a curl or straighten out a piece of hair only passed through it one time.   If you are just doing a quick touch up the temperature can be set up to 375 degrees.  If you are using a hot tool after you have shampooed your hair then you can set your temperature up to 400 degrees.  Remember you should never use a hot tool on dirty hair. If you find that towards the end of the week you are needing to use a hot tool often then you may want to shampoo your hair. Another great tool to use if you are needing just to refresh a curl, is a curling iron. Just remember always use a light heat protected before using hot tools and always purchase hot tools that you can adjust the temperature.

4th:  If you are a sweater or you work out  sometimes its a challenge. If your hair is longer separate your hair while you work out so your scalp can breath. Once you are done working out let your scalp completely dry or put your blow dryer on cool and dry your scalp and any hair that got wet. Then put a light oil on it and re wrap it or pin curl it up until it is time for you to get dressed.  If you are rocking a shorter look then  You can also use paper hair strip and mesh wrap-around the sides and back to keep them laying down while you sweat.  Paper strips what help absorb some of the sweat while you work out. Once you're done leave the wrap on until your hair fully dries. The use a light oil. If your hair will not lay down, then you can use foam wrap on the areas that got wet brush down, then tie up. Use light oil once dry.

5th:  Depending on your weekly routine I suggest shampooing once or every other week. To get similar results to your salon visit I suggest that you are using the shampoo, conditoner, styling products your stylist using.

Finding a daily and weekly routine will really ensure that you maintain healthy hair between your salon visits.
